National Informatics Centre (NIC), established in 1976, has emerged as a “prime builder” of e-Government / e-Governance applications up to the grassroots level as well as a promoter of digital opportunities for sustainable development. NIC has its presence at all the Ministries /Departments of the Central Government, 35 State Governments / Union Territories, and about 625 District administrations of India.

NIC has been instrumental in steering e-Government/e-Governance applications in government ministries/departments at the Centre, States, Districts and Blocks, facilitating improvement in government services, wider transparency, promoting decentralized planning and management.

NIC has vast expertise and experience in the design, development and operationalization of various e-Government projects in the areas of Public Administration and Governance. NIC provides Nationwide Common ICT Infrastructure to support e-Governance services to the citizen, Products and Solutions designed to address e-Governance Initiatives, Major e-Governance Projects, State/UT Informatics Support and district level services rendered.

NIC is a very important and vital gear in the implementation of Digital India vision & mission.

NIC centres established in this UT in 1990 in Dadra & Nagar Haveli, in 1991 in Daman and in 1996 in Diu. Since then, NIC has been providing ICT services like Application development for various departments, implementation of National level applications and MMPs, providing consultancy to the Administration in procurement of hardware/software resources, selection of third party vendors, email, video conference, capacity building at various levels, day-to-day support in utilizing the ICT resources.

NIC has been providing ICT support in the sectors like Agriculture, Public Distribution, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Forestry & Environment, Industry, Health, Education, Transport, PWD, Court Management, Rural Development, Land Records and Property registration, Social Welfare Services, Panchayati Raj. NIC is also providing Office Automation Support like eOffice.
